Why "The Larkin's Lair"
To pay for school I did door to door sales in Virginia. Sorry for being one of those annoying door to door salesmen. While out there I ran into this street sign that said “LARKINS LAIR.” I was very tempted to steel it… but I didn’t. However it did give me the inspiration for why I named the YouTube channel the way that I did.
When I started the YouTube channel I thought I was going to do a life vlog just documenting my families adventures, but after one video I decided I wanted to keep my personal life personal. So I pivoted to firearms. That is how the channel got started.
My Passion
After learning more about firearms I got hooked on them. I started buying more, learning more, and then wound up teaching others about what I had learned. I came from a place of minimal knowledge about the mechanics, politics, and shooting firearms. I have worked to learn more, however as the island of my knowledge grows so does the shore of my ignorance.
I enjoy learning and teaching so YouTube was a natural place for me to start posting content on the things that I had learned. My goal with YouTube has always been to try to get individuals the information they need without all the fluff of a long intro or lots of talking. I understand that people have busy lives, and don’t need to listen to me rant.
Who knows where YouTube and life will take me, but I am excited for the journey and the YouTube community. Thanks for all the support along the way!
My Goals
I enjoy working with firearms and having a YouTube channel makes me spend more time on a hobby I enjoy. I would like to keep posting firearm related content for the foreseeable future, perhaps becoming on of the oldest actively posting firearm channels on YouTube. They say the difference between a big fish and little fish is that a big fish was just a little fish that kept on swimming.
As much as I love firearms, there are many things that are more important to me. Starting with my faith and family. While the second amendment is critical for protecting both of those, the needs of my family are more important then YouTube. I expect as my kids require more time there is s chance that I would need to reduce posting frequency, although I will try to avoid that. I can’t wait for the day that I can pay my kids to edit my videos. I have not missed a week posting even through having my last two kids, so I don’t plan on going anywhere. However, I do recognize there are more important things in life then YouTube.
